fasting the day of Ashura

An opportunity that should be Taken advantage of

The day of Ashura is a significant time for seeking forgiveness and renewing your commitment to Allah (SWT). Fasting and dedicating yourself to worship on this special day can erase the sins of the past year, as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Fasting on the day of Ashura, I hope from Allah that it will expiate the sins of the previous year.”

It is also recommended to fast on the day before Ashura, called Tasu’a. While the Prophet (PBUH) did not fast on this day himself, he encouraged it, saying, “If I live to see the next year, I will surely fast on the ninth and the tenth.”

Ashura is a time for reflection, prayer, and devotion. It offers an opportunity to cleanse our hearts, seek Allah’s mercy, and start a new path of righteousness. The spiritual rewards of fasting and the joy of celebrating this day with gatherings and meals highlight its importance for both the community and the individual.

Additionally, scholars recommend several virtuous acts to be performed on the day of Ashura:

1. Fasting for those who are able.

2. Spending generously on family and gathering with them.

3. Engaging in remembrance (dhikr).

4. Making supplications (du’a).

5. Reading or listening to the Quran.

6. Doing good deeds and giving charity.

“In the Islamic calendar 1446, Tasu’a and Ashura correspond to Monday, 15th July 2024, and Tuesday, 16th July 2024, respectively. Take this chance to renew your faith, draw closer to Allah, and let the blessings of Ashura inspire you to live a more devout and fulfilling life.”
